In Your Eyes is the dramatic, somewhat-supernatural, romance between two complete strangers who can see into each others lives.

First of all, FUCK. Never has a film ever made me feel so in love.

The film as a whole was undeniably great. The storyline was so unique. From the trailer you're told that the screenplay is done by Joss Whedon, the producer of Buffy of the Vampire and from that I expected the film to go in a completely different direction than it did. I expected a lot of 'powers' and more immature themes but what we got was this intense romance dealing with very mature subjects in a very honest way.

The characters were faultless. Michael Stahl-David who played one of the two main characters, Dylan, gave an excellent performance. He had the type of character that you should feel sorry for but he didn't play into that which  only made him so much more likeable. He also managed to add humour to a generally monotone film which made you react to him so much more. Zoe Kazan who played Rebecca, showed her vulnerability in her character but at times also her strength. This was a role that is much like Kazans others but she definitely brought some of her best acting to this role.

I feel like the film touched on a lot of subjects besides the supernatural plot. It delved into mental health, domestic abuse almost and loneliness as well as other topics. Including these subjects made the film much more relatable and changed the dynamic of the film. It made the film so much more soft and warming which I think is why I felt so strongly about it afterwards.

The one thing that definitely stood out to me was the filming. The film follows the lives of the two character but separately and looking into each others lives. It sounds very technically confusing which is exactly why I think the filming was done excellently. It felt really quite real and believable which added so much more to the film in terms of emotion and the bond between them.

Alongside the direction of the film, the cinematography was equally as good. The shots were framed beautifully and managed to capture emotions in the character that would otherwise have been missed. One scene inparticular that stood out to me was where Rebecca undressed and they essentially had sex through each others body. I thought this was a beautiful and very emotive scene which they managed to capture perfectly.

Overall, I think In Your Eyes is one of the best films I've watched this year and has definitely become one of my favourite of all time. The writing, the filming, the acting and the cinematography were all so sublime. A great watch for movie night with a partner.
